For women traveling alone, they're likely searching for different aspects in a destination than they might on a girls’ trip or romantic vacation from safety concerns to sticking to a budget.
And with low travel costs and high safety ratings, the Czech city of Prague was rated the best city in the world for solo female travelers, according to a study by travel gear brand Eminent. The city had a high general safety score and walkability score while being budget friendly.
In fact, an average one-night hotel stay in Prague costs around $103, the study noted, which it said is less than most other Western European capitals. Public transportation costs just $2.35 on average, the third lowest in the study, and an average meal costs just $29.
With its fairytale castles, Prague continually ranks as one of the world’s most beautiful cities. And with more than 4,900 tourist attractions to explore, travelers are sure to never be bored.
Second was Quebec City, which the study said boasted one of the highest safety ratings of any city on the list where nearly every part was walkable. The average hotel cost for a one-night stay there was $150, and while it is a primarily French-speaking province, residents there are known for having good English speaking skills.
That was followed by Singapore, Tokyo, and Lisbon rounding out the top five.
To come up with its list, Eminent examined 50 cities around the world popular with travelers, taking a close look at how they ranked for factors like safety perception, walkability, English proficiency, and more. To find the best city in the world for female travelers, Eminent also scrutinized a traveler’s average costs for public transportation, hotel nights, and restaurant meals.
